Hospice Nurses

Hospice nurses come to the patient’s home to monitor patient health, perform basic medical tests and help family members better understand how to care for patient needs.

Hospice Volunteers

Hospice volunteers help ease patient loneliness with regular visits. The volunteers on our team might read a patient’s favorite book or engage in conversation about an individual’s favorite topics.

Hospice Aides

Hospice aides serve as companionship for a hospice patient while also helping with everyday personal tasks such as personal grooming and bathing.

Social Workers

Social workers manage the practical aspects of hospice care, including helping with financial or legal matters and arranging access to community resources.

Spiritual Advisers

A chaplain on our hospice care team can offer support and advice on spiritual issues to hospice patients with concerns or curiosity about end-of-life issues.

Bereavement Counselors

Bereavement counselors provide support for family members after a loved one’s death, including grief counseling and assistance with funeral arrangements.

Our palliative care experts provide consultations for patients who are currently residing at home, in the hospital or in assisted living facilities. We also provide bereavement support for families who have lost a loved one.

No. Our chaplains support people of every faith and people with no religious background at all. For some families that means prayer or scripture, and for others it means simply having someone to talk with about fear, regret, or what a life has meant. If your loved one has their own pastor, priest, rabbi, or imam, our chaplain is glad to work alongside them. Chaplain visits are always optional.

It happens, and it’s good news. If your loved one stabilizes or improves and no longer meets hospice eligibility, they can be discharged from hospice and return to regular Medicare coverage. A patient can also choose to stop hospice at any time to pursue treatment. Either way, they can come back to hospice later if their health declines.

Not usually. The goal of hospice pain management is comfort with as much alertness as your loved one wants. Our nurses and hospice physician start with the lowest effective dose and adjust it based on how your loved one responds. Some drowsiness can happen early on or near the end of life, and if your family notices changes you’re not comfortable with, tell your nurse and we’ll revisit the plan together.
